ASHLEY EAKIN is a WGA/DGA writer/director born with a physical disability. She is currently developing a half-hour tv show with 20th for FX, inspired by her AFI Directing Workshop for Women short film Single, that won the 2020 SXSW Special Jury Recognition Award. Eakin was also selected as part of the Netflix Emerging Filmmaker Initiative and her film Forgive Us Our Trespasses is currently live on the platform. Eakin has directed two episodes of television for the Apple TV+ series Best Foot Forward and one episode for the Disney+ series Growing Up. She is currently a fellow in the Inevitable Accelerate Program for disabled writers. Prior to working on her own content, Eakin was the assistant to Jon M. Chu, and worked on his critically acclaimed film, Crazy Rich Asians. Having over 15 years of experience in the TV and Film industry, Eakin is passionate about diversifying the narrative of how disabled people are portrayed in the media. She is also a founding member and Alt-Co Chair of the DGA’s newly-established and historic Disability Committee.
